Indications

Dosage
Tetralex Injectable solution can be given through intramuscular or subcutaneous routes Horses & Foal: 0.1 – 0.2 ml/kg Cattle & Calf: 0.1-0.2 ml/kg Sheep & Lamb: 0.1-0.2 ml/kg Dog & Cat: 0.14 – 0.22 ml/kg Poultry: 1-4 weeks: ½ ml To inject birds in this period, it’s necessary to dilute with equal amount of sterile distilled water) 4-8 weeks: 1 ml Over 8 weeks: 2-4 ml Adult turkeys: Up to 7 ml
Adverse Reactions
Gastrointestinal disturbances and diarrhea may occur. Swelling, necrosis and yellow discoloration at the injection site almost inevitably occur tetracyclines group (oxytetracycline) chelate calcium in teeth and bones; they become incorporated into these structures, inhibit calcification (e.g hypoplastic dental enamel) and cause yellowish then brownish discoloration.
Contra Indications
The tetracyclines group ( oxytetracycline ) are potentially nephrotoxic and are contraindicated in renal insufficiency . Hepatotoxic effects due to large doses of tetracyclines ( oxytetracycline ) have been reported in pregnant women and in other animals, the mortality rate is high.
Drug Interactions
The absorption of tetracycline (oxytetracycline) from the GI tract is decreased by milk and milk products, antacids, kaolin and iron preparations. The tetracyclines group ( oxytetracycline ) also bind to the calcium ions in Ringer’s solution Methoxyflurane anesthesia combined with tetracycline (oxytetracycline ) therapy may be nephrotoxic . The tetracyclines are less active in alkaline urine, and urine acidification can increase their antimicrobial efficacy.
