Indications
- Erythromycin has a broad spectrum of action which makes it suitable for treatment of Gram-positive infections but it also has good activity against mycoplasmas and it is the drug of choice in controlling the chronic respiratory disease (CRD) in chickens. Erythromycin has been employeed in dogs to treat such conditions as secondary bacterial infections of distemper, pneumonia, pharyngitis, urinary tract infections, enteritis, tonsillitis and otitis. The macrolides are used to treat both systemic and local infections. They are often regarded as alternatives to penicillins for the treatment of streptococcal and staphylococcal infections. General indications include upper respiratory tract infections, chronic respiratory disease (CRD), broncho-pneumonia, bacterial enteritis, metritis and aid in the management of vaccination, transportation or climatic changes
