Indications
Chlortetracycline HCL powder is indicated for treatment of bacterial , rickottsial and protozoal diseases in most animals such as :
- General organ infections include bronchopneumonia , bacterial enteritis , urinary tract infections , cholangitis , metritis , mastitis, prostatitis and pyodermatitis .
- Specific conditions include infections keratoconjunctivitis , in cattle chlamydiosis , heart water , anaplasmosis , actinomyosis , actinobacillosis , nocardiosis , ehrlichiosis , eperthrozoonosis and haemobarionellosis .
- Theileriosis caused by thieleria parva in cattle .
- A wide rang of enteric and respiratory infection in poultry .
- Secondary bacterial invasion after viral diseases in small animals .
Warning & Precautions
* In case of renal insufficiency or hepatic impairment , lower than the normal dosage are recommended with enhanced monitoring of renal and hepatic function . * Avoid concomitant administration of other nephrotoxic or hepatotoxic drugs . * Absorption of chlortetracycline from the gastrointestinal tract is reduced by milk, antacids, and calcium, iron, magnesium, aluminium and zink salts . * Avoid prolonged storage of tetracyclines under conditions of high temperature and humidity or usage beyond the expiry date .

For active ingredient :
Calves and pigs : 10 – 20 mg / kg p.o daily for ( 3 – 5 ) days , ( for theilriosis in cattle : 1.5 mg / kg p.o for 28 days ) .
Chickens : 20 – 50 mg / kg p.o daily for ( 3 – 5 ) days .
Turkeys : 10 – 30 mg / kg p.o daily for ( 3 – 5 ) days .
For whole product :
Calves and pigs : 61 – 122 mg / kg p.o daily for ( 3 – 5 ) days , ( for theilriosis in cattle : 9 mg / kg p.o for 28 days ) .
Chickens : 122 – 305 mg / kg p.o daily for ( 3 – 5 ) days .
Turkeys : 61 – 183 mg / kg p.o daily for ( 3 – 5 ) days .
Withdrawal time :
Calves : slaughter 25 days .
Pigs : slaughter 10 days .
Chicken , turkeys : slaughter 1days .
Ducks : slaughter 4 days .
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea , vomiting or diarrhea may occur .
- Tetracyclines cause staining of developing teeth and bones in young animals .
- Nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity may seldom occur .
- Superinfections with fungal and resistant bacteria .
- High doses or chronic administration may delay bone growth and healing .
Contra Indications
Chlortetracycline is contraindicated in the following cases :
- Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines .
- Renal impairment, dysphagia or diseases accompanied by vomiting .
- In last half of pregnancy except when the benefits outweigh the fetal risks .
- Neonates up to 4 weeks .
- This product is not used for animals producing milk for human consumption or chickens producing eggs for human consumption .
